AMERICAN CAPITAL DECLARES DIVIDEND OF $0.67 PER SHARE
14% INCREASE OVER Q1 2002
Bethesda, MD - January 30, 2003 - American Capital Strategies Ltd.
(Nasdaq:ACAS)announced today its Board of Directors has declared a first quarter 2003 dividend of $0.67 per share, payable on March 31, 2003 to record holders as of March 12, 2003. This dividend is a 14% increase over the first quarter 2002 regular dividend of $0.59 per share. American Capital has paid or declared a total of $11.00 in dividends since its August 1997 IPO.

The current dividend of $0.67 per share is estimated to be a distribution of ordinary income. The actual tax characteristics will be reported to each shareholder on a Form 1099.
