Bethesda, MD - November 12, 2001 - American Capital Strategies Ltd. (Nasdaq:ACAS) announced today that Eugene L. Podsiadlo has been elected to its Board of Directors.

Mr. Podsiadlo was President of Warburg Pincus Funds and Managing Director of Warburg Pincus/Credit Suisse Asset Management from 1994 to 2001. He joined Warburg Pincus in 1991 and devised and implemented the business plan for its then new mutual fund operation, which grew to over $10 billion in assets in six years. In 1998, he was named co-CEO of a joint venture with Credit Suisse in asset management that led to the acquisition of Warburg Pincus Asset Management in 1999. Mr. Podsiadlo was named a member of the combined firms' six-person management committee, overseeing over $50 billion in assets and 650 employees. He retired from Credit Suisse in January 2001.
Prior to joining Warburg Pincus, Mr. Podsiadlo was Vice President at Citibank from 1985 to 1991, where he headed various divisions of Citicorp Brokerage and was Treasurer of Citibank Insurance Services. He currently serves as a consultant to Wasatch Advisors Inc., a Salt Lake City based investment advisor and manager of the Wasatch Mutual Funds family. Mr. Podsiadlo holds a B.S. in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland.
