AMERICAN CAPITAL OPENS PHILADELPHIA OFFICE
KENNETH E. JONES JOINS COMPANY AS PRINCIPAL

Bethesda, MD -- American Capital Strategies, Ltd. (Nasdaq:ACAS), a publicly traded buyout and mezzanine fund, today announced the opening of a new office in Philadelphia, the company's ninth. Joining the company as a Principal in Philadelphia is Kenneth E. Jones.

"American Capital's new office in Philadelphia positions us to take better advantage of the dynamic middle market in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Chairman and CEO Malon Wilkus. "There are hundreds of companies with revenues between $10 million and $200 million within 100 miles of Philadelphia. Ken's extensive contacts and relationships in this market will help us increase our investment opportunities as we continue our nationwide growth."

Jones has over 25 years of middle market financing experience as a commercial banker, private equity principal and investment banker, predominantly in the Mid-Atlantic region of the U.S. He comes to American Capital from Meridian Venture Partners where he was a General Partner in two private equity funds. Previously, Jones was a Managing Director at Berwind Financial, a Philadelphia-based middle market investment bank, leading that firm's efforts in providing private and public middle market companies advice in merger and acquisition and private placement transactions. He currently serves as the President of the Philadelphia Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth and as a Director on the boards of Dorland Data Networks, Hake Group, Inc., Penguin Industries, Inc. and Zeks Compressed Air Solutions.

"Ken brings a wealth of experience in middle market leveraged finance and his reputation in the greater Philadelphia market will serve American Capital well," said President and COO Adam Blumenthal. "His extensive transaction experience, knowledge of the private capital markets and operating background in manufacturing are uniquely suited to American Capital's middle market investment strategy."

American Capital is a publicly traded buyout and mezzanine fund. American Capital is an equity partner in management and employee buyouts; invests in debt and equity of companies led by private equity firms, and provides capital directly to private and small public companies.
